The appalling errors in Michael Gove's new GCSE 'science curricula',
which uses acceleration instead of velocity, and time instead of
distance, is symptomatic of his lack of empathy with practical skills.
His seems determined to focus on written exams, at the expense of
ensuring that students are capable of applying that knowledge. Science,
Engineering, Design & Technology are the essential building blocks
to support Britain's manufacturing and creative industries. They only
way to truly understand the fundamentals of these subjects is by
application, which is why coursework and practical exams are essential.
The continuing damage being inflicted on our education system by Mr Gove
will be reflected in years to come, as our wealth creating industries
will find that the outputs from his educational experiments cannot
deliver the skilled workforce that Britain requires.
